Warner Bros. Descends into 'Dante's Inferno'

Warner Bros. loves Satan. That's not meant to be an insult or a comment on their business practices; it's just that they seem to be trying to make a movie connected to him in some way. A couple of years ago they were ready to splurge on Alex Proyas' star-studded 3D adaptation of John Milton's Paradise Lost, only to get cold feet because of the potential cost. But they really want to make that Satan thing happen, and rather than reviving Poyas' project they've decided to turn to an adaptation of Dante's Inferno.

Warner Bros. has scooped up a Dante's Inferno pitch from Dwain Worrell that will follow Dante as he “descends through the nine circles of hell to save the woman he loves.” Yes, the story of Dante's descent into Hell alongside the poet Virgil will somehow be turned into a love story.

And in case there were any doubts, the hope is that this will launch a franchise of some kind, because the studio was impressed by its "scale". Perhaps nine movies for nine circles of Hell? [Deadline]
