'Blue Ruin' Duo Jeremy Saulnier and Macon Blair Reteam for 'Hold the Dark'

For fans of indie movies the combination of director Jeremy Saulnier and star Macon Blair, both local boys who grew up in Alexandria, has been pretty exciting. The duo first worked together on Murder Party before making a splash a couple of years ago with the revenge tale, Blue Ruin. Most recently they've been earning strong response to their Nazis vs. punk rockers flick, Green Room, and now they're gearing up a new project.

Saulnier is set to direct an adaptation of William Giraldi's book, Hold the Dark, which sounds pretty amazing. Set in the Alaskan wilderness, the story centers on a hunter summoned to track and destroy a pack of wolves that have taken a young child. His mission leads him down an increasingly dark and shocking path as he confronts the cruelty of nature and his own failures as a man. With the child’s grief-crazed father closing in behind him and a fierce, unforgiving landscape ahead, the question becomes, who is really being hunted?

Blair will be tackling the screenplay and don't be surprised if there's a little role in there for him, as well. A24 will be backing this one just as they did Green Room, which hopefully will hit theaters later this year. Now excuse me while I go add Hold the Dark to my Kindle.  [THR]
