Emma Stone and Kate Winslet in Talks for Royal Drama 'The Favorite'

Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos has had better luck than most foreign directors when it comes to landing American stars. His most recent film, the romance oddity The Lobster, had a cast most stateside directors would kill for, and now his next project is looking even more starry.

Kate Winslet, Emma Stone, and Olivia Colman (Hyde Park On Hudson) are all in talks for The Favorite, a period piece Lanthimos will direct. Written by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara, the 17th-century tale follows the political machinations during the reign of Queen Anne, who will be played by Colman. Winslet will be Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough while Stone is distant relative Abigail Masham.

Filming is set to begin next year, and hopefully by then there will be some added plot details because this sounds like your average episode of The Tudors. Then again, the title suggests the story could focus on Masham, who was known to have been a favorite of Anne's. Whatever the case, we'll get to see some great costumes at least. [Deadline]
