'Mega Man' Movie Gets Powered Up At Fox
Time to charge up your Mega Blaster and get Dr. Light on the line, because it looks like a Mega Man film is actually happening. According to The Tracking Board, 20th Century Fox and Chermin Entertainment are bringing the classic side-scrolling video game to the big screen.
Details are few as there are no writers or directors at this point, but the project will be overseen by those involved with the Planet of the Apes franchise, so at least they have some blockbuster cred. The Megan Man series has been around since 1987 when Capcom released the first game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The story involves Dr. Light, who is betrayed by the evil Dr. Wily who steals his research and builds robots to take over the world. Light fights back by converting his robotic assistant into Mega Man, who could steal the weapons from Wily's robots after defeating them.
There have been dozens of Mega Man games at this point, selling millions of copies. It's since grown into a huge multimedia franchise with comic books, cartoons, novels, soundtracks, and more. I can always count on seeing a bunch of people at Comic-Con dressed up as Mega Man with a giant blaster on their arm. He's one of my favorite characters to use in Marvel vs. Capcom, also, because he's cheesy as Hell.
While it's not specified Fox is probably going with a live-action film rather than the animated route, but those details should be made clear soon.
