Michael Fassbender in Talks for Crime Thriller 'The Snowman'

In a few months we could be talking about Michael Fassbender as an Oscar winner if the rave early reviews for Steve Jobs are any indication. The actor, who also has Justin Kurzel's Hamlet, followed by Assassin's Creed and X-Men: Apocalypse on the way, has never been in higher demand, and now he's in talks for a role in the long-developing adaptation of Joe Nesbo's crime novel, The Snowman.

Once a project developed by Martin Scorsese to direct in 2011, he eventually dropped out only to be replaced by Swedish helmer, Tomas Alfredson, known for Let the Right One In and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Fassbender would take on the role of Oslo detective Harry Hole, the lead character in seven of Nesbo's novels. Hole's investigative style is unorthodox, but he must put his skills to use solving a series of murders committed by a criminal known as "The Snowman".

Soren Sveistrup (The Killing) co-wrote the screenplay with Alfredson, but it isn't clear if the Norwegian setting is being retained. As for Fassbender, he's been remarkably busy this year and on top of the previously mentioned projects he can be seen in the Western, Slow West (review here), which to me has been greatly underrated. He's been pretty anxious about exiting the X-men franchise, so it remains to be seen if he'll agree to The Snowman which was being eyed as a potential series. [THR]
