Angelina Jolie went large-scale with her first couple of directorial efforts, In the Land of Blood and Honey and Unbroken. Maybe that's why she decided to tone things down greatly with her third film, Beyond the Sea, a European-style romance in which she stars alongside husband, Brad Pitt.
Capturing the mood of those glamorous, melodramatic films of the '60s and '70s, Beyond the Sea, which Jolie also wrote, finds her and Pitt playing a couple who retreat to a picturesque hotel to deal with unresolved issues in their relationship. This new trailer finds Jolie and Pitt taking the emotional intensity to another level, but it's really the atmosphere this footage creates that is fascinating. Most audiences are going to show up to watch Hollywood's #1 super couple vent their feelings at one another, and it certainly appears they take every opportunity to do just that.
By the Sea opens November 13th and co-stars an international cast that includes Mélanie Laurent, Melvil Poupaud, Niels Arestrup and Richard Bohringer.
