Eddie Redmayne Becomes Lili Elbe In New Trailer for 'The Danish Girl'
Could Eddie Redmayne on the verge of his second straight Best Actor Oscar? Redmayne, who won the award last year for The Theory of Everything, has seemed like a shoe-in nominee for The Danish Girl, in which he plays the first recipient of sexual reassignment surgery. Some of that buzz has died down over the last few weeks, but a new trailer has been released that could get people talking once again.
Directed by Tom Hooper (Les Miserables) and co-starring the ubiquitous Alicia Vikander (she has eight movies in 2015), the film puts Redmayne in the role of artist Einar Wegener, whose marriage to Gerda (Vikander) is tested when he undergoes male to female sexual reassignment surgery, becoming Lili Elbe. While it began innocently with Einar posing as a woman for his wife's painting, he grew fond of being female and lived his life as such with Gerda's support...for a time.
Also starring Matthias Shoenaerts, Amber Heard, and Ben Whishaw, The Danish Girl opens November 27th.
