How's this for a lateral move? Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos had lined up Emma Watson, Kate Winslet, and Olivia Colman for period drama The Favorite, his follow-up to festival hit The Lobster. Well it turns out Winslet has had to drop out, but it leaves an opening for the director to be reunited with The Lobster's star, Rachel Weisz.
Weisz takes on the role of Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough in the 17th-century drama, with Colman as Queen Anne and Stone as Sarah's distant relative, Abigail, who the queen prefers. The story was written by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara, who will detail the political machinations surrounding the royal family.
Filming on The Favorite begins next spring. By then Weisz will have been seen in Paolo Sorrentino's Youth, alongside Michael Caine.
