George Clooney In Talks to Direct Long-Developing Coen Brothers Project, 'Suburbicon'
If the title Suburbicon has any meaning to you, it must be that you're quite the follower of the Coen Brothers, particularly their frequent collaborations with George Clooney. For as long as a decade there have been stories about Clooney eyeing the project with nothing ever coming of it. But now suddenly all seems to have fallen into place and a deal is imminent for him to direct from the Coens' script.
Deadline reports Clooney as being in talks for the film, of which very little is actually know. They describe it as a small 1950s noir crime drama in the vein of the Coens' Blood Simple, which would certainly be a turn for Clooney behind the camera. Not that he's unfamiliar with noir as there are elements of that in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and The Good German, but this sounds like it will be his first full-fledged crack at the genre.
Clooney is set to star in the Coen Brothers' Hollywood comedy, Hail Caesar!, and has worked with them multiple times in the past on O Brother Where Art Thou?, Intolerable Cruelty, and Burn After Reading.
