George Miller Says He Won't Direct 'Man of Steel 2'; Talks Plans for Two 'Mad Max' Sequels'

Since there were no movies by Gareth Evans (The Raid, The Raid 2) this year, George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road is far and away the best action flick. It's amazing, and has fans wondering how his Justice League: Mortal might have turned out if production hadn't been derailed.  Last month a rumor emerged that Warner Bros. wanted Miller to direct Man of Steel 2, which would finally give him the chance to play in the DC Comics sandbox.

Unfortunately, Miller has revealed to Digital Spy that he has no intention of directing the superhero film, although he did have conversations with the studio. Instead, he has hopes of going much smaller with his next movie...

“I hope the next film I make is a very small film without any special effects and not many stunts.”

In other words, don't expect to see him tackling Mad Max: The Wasteland anytime soon, either. As for Man of Steel 2, it doesn't seem like that movie is going to happen, anyway. Zack Snyder has admitted Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is essentially the sequel, and Warner Bros. has placed any follow-ups on "permanent hold".

Miller has taken on smaller movies in the past like Happy Feet and Babe: Pig in the City, so learning that he wants to go back to that isn't surprising. 'Fury Road' was a grueling production and he probably needs a break. However when he's ready to jump back into the world of Mad Max, Miller has a couple of movies planned. Speaking with Top Gear, Miller says he basically has two screenplays ready, one which will be The Wasteland...

"So we ended up with two scripts, without really trying. We're talking to the studio about it as we speak, but which one of the two stories will happen next, I'm not so sure..."We shot Fury Road for eight months… that's a lot. Every day in the heat and the dust, doing these stunts, it's very wearing. We've got two more planned, but at some point in the future."

Now the only question is if Charlize Theron can be convinced to return as Furiosa. She's been iffy on the whole thing and Miller may have to spend the next few months buttering her up.
