Lionsgate is go-go-going on their Power Rangers reboot, and over the weekend a list of names emerged to play a few of the colorful warriors. In contention to play Kimberly aka the Pink Ranger were AnnaSophia Robb (Soul Surfer), newcomer Stephanie Scott, and The Martian's Naomi Scott. While Robb may have seemed like the big-name choice, the role has actually gone to Naomi Scott.
Lionsgate made the official announcement on the film's Instagram account. While The Martian is Scott's biggest film, Power Rangers will be her most prominent role. She was also a central character in the short-lived Fox series, Terra Nova.
The rest of the Rangers will probably be cast soon so that director Dean Israelite can have the film ready by its January 2017 date. Currently up for the role of Zack aka the Black Ranger are Daniel Zovatto (It Follows), Ross Butler (Chasing Life), and Brian “Sene” Marc. Vying for the role of Jason the Red Ranger are KJ Apa (Shortland Street), Austin Butler (The Shannara Chronicles) and Mitchell Hope (Descendants).
