Producer Says Indiana Jones will Always be Harrison Ford

At some point Lucasfilm is going to knuckle down and get moving on a fifth Indiana Jones movie. It's inevitable and everyone knows it, but before that can happen a decision has to be made about Harrison Ford. Rumors have swirled about a possible reboot that would see Indy played by someone younger, like maybe Chris Pratt, but that's not what's being said by the folks on the inside. While Steven Spielberg has teased working with both Pratt and Ford, producer Frank Marshall says there's no way Indiana Jones is played by someone new. He tells Total Film...

“There are a lot of rumours. We haven’t even sat down to talk about Indy yet… at some point we’ll sit down. But there’s a bunch of people who could probably take the baton....[We're] “not doing the Bond thing where we’re going to call somebody else Indiana Jones… we have to figure this out.”

So basically what he's saying is that Ford will be playing Indiana Jones for as long as he's able, and then another character will pick up the fedora. This is a much tougher trick to pull off than continuing the Star Wars franchise because that's about an entire universe of characters, whereas Indiana Jones is and always will be recognized through Ford. But it's too profitable a brand name to shut down, and certainly it's too profitable to not have Ford back to sell some toys and Slurpee cups. [Den of Geek]
