Reese Witherspoon Plans Adaptation of Mystery Novel ' In a Dark, Dark Wood'

Reese Witherspoon doesn't need to step in front of the camera to throw her weight around Hollywood. She's becoming quite the powerhouse producer with hits like Gone Girl, Wild, and....well, Hot Pursuit was a bit of a dud. The point is that when she puts her name to a project it's probably a good idea to pay attention, and now she's readying an adaptation of Ruth Ware's recent mystery novel, In a Dark, Dark Wood.

Ware's book became an instant best-seller when it was published in August and now Witherspoon hopes to find similar success on the big screen. The story centers on a reclusive crime writer who accepts a friend's invitation to a bachelorette party in an isolated home in the English countryside. Two days later she wakes up in the hospital with injuries and no memory except that someone is dead. She then sets out to find out the truth of what really happened over those 48 hours, uncovering deep, dark secrets from her past.

Right now it doesn't look as if Witherspoon will take a role, but she didn't plan to initially with Wild, either, and look how that turned out with her gaining an Oscar nomination. [TheTrackingBoard]
