Zack Snyder and HBO Teaming for a 'Watchmen' TV Series?

As popular as superhero TV shows have been on Netflix and broadcast networks it's surprising the pay cable networks haven't jumped in with both feet. HBO may be looking to change that, and it could be with arguably the most iconic comic book series ever, Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen.

According to Collider, Zack Snyder has had meeting with HBO about developing a Watchmen TV series. Snyder famously adapted the legendary work into a divisive 2009 film. There aren't many details available at this point, so take all of this with the usual degree of scrutiny. For instance, would it be a serialized version of the original story? Or some kind of prequel or follow-up? Perhaps it would dive into the "Before Watchmen" comics DC has been producing?

If any of this is true you can bet Moore will have something nasty to say about it, so perhaps it's a good idea to wait and hear from him next. While I think Watchmen is one of Snyder's most underrated films, let's face it nobody could do the graphic novel true justice, it may have been better served as a series than a single movie.
