Mark Wahlberg's 'The Six Billion Dollar Man' gets a New Director and Release Date
What's six million dollars nowadays? That's nothing. You can't even buy a Presidential candidate for that kind of money. But six BILLION dollars? That's a big enough sum to make a movie about. For years a big screen version of The Six Million Dollar Man TV series has been in the works, only this one would be titled The Six Billion Dollar Man. Mark Wahlberg has long been on board to star, and while he was set to reteam with his Lone Survivor director Peter Berg, the job has now fallen to Damian Szifron, who earned acclaim for Best Foreign Language film nominee, Wild Tales.
Szifron had been hired earlier this year to write the screenplay but now he's taking on the directing gig, and it should be interesting to see how the Argentinian filmmaker handles a major studio movie and potential franchise. The film is based on Martin Caidin's book, Cyborg, and the hit TV series from the '70s that starred Lee Majors as Steve Austin, a military officer whose body is rebuilt with advanced technology after an accident leaves him near death.
And this one is getting started early as a release date has been set for December 22nd 2017, with filming to begin next September.
