'Wonder Woman' Casts Nicole Kidman as an Amazonian Warrior

Twenty years ago Nicole Kidman made her first and only foray into superhero movies by playing Dr. Chase Meridian opposite Val Kilmer in Batman Forever. It was a forgettable role in a forgettable film, but she's about to get a chance to make a much bigger impact in a DC Comics movie. According to The Wrap, Kidman is set to join Gal Gadot in the upcoming Wonder Woman film

While there are no specifics on Kidman's character, she's said to be playing a "high-ranking Amazonian warrior", which could turn out to be Hippolyta, Wonder Woman's mother and the queen of the Amazons. There are other Amazons fitting that description, and it's always possible they veer away from the comic book storylines and change around some of the details just as they've done with Man of Steel and Suicide Squad. Kidman would be joining Gadot and Chris Pine as the only officially confirmed cast members.

Obviously, adding an Oscar-winner like Kidman is a big boost, but it also suggests there will be quite a bit of time spent with the Amazons. Rumors are the film will be broken up into distinct time periods, mostly taking place in modern times but also flashing back to WWI and the Amazons' involvement.

Kidman used to look like an Amazon all the time back when she used to tower over ex-husband Tom Cruise, so she should feel right at home. Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman opens June 23rd 2017. Next up for Kidman is the remake of The Secret In Their Eyes with Julia Roberts and Chiwetel Ejiofor, due out this month.
