Wim Wenders Casts James McAvoy for Romance Thriller, 'Submergence'
James McAvoy and director Wim Wenders are crossing paths at a time when both are at their busiest. McAvoy recently took on a role in M. Night Shyamalan's next film, and will star opposite Charlize Theron in The Coldest City. Wenders has already had two films out this year and is wrapping up on The Beautiful Days of Aranjuez, but his next project is already getting started.
Wenders and McAvoy are teaming up for Submergence, an adaptation of J.M. Ledgard's romance thriller which will be written by Erin Dignam, who penned the vastly underrated The Yellow Handkerchief. The story centers on the connection between former lovers separated by thousands of miles and incredible circumstances. He's an English reporter held captive by Jihadists in Somalia, while she is a biomathematician exploring life on the ocean floor.
Filming is to begin next March. [THR]
