Dwayne Johnson To Star In Will Gluck's Throwback Action-Comedy

After the $470M haul for last summer's disaster flick San Andreas, New Line really wants to stay in the Dwayne Johnson business. They've already signed The Rock and producer Beau Flynn for the monster-ific video game adaptation, Rampage, and now the studio has put up a lot of money to bring them back once more in an action comedy from Easy A director, Will Gluck.

Deadline reports New Line has won a fierce bidding war for the project, an action buddy comedy in the vein of films like 48 Hrs., Lethal Weapon, and Midnight Run. Writing the script will be David Callaham, who penned The Expendables with Johnson and Flynn producing. Johnson hit Twitter and referred to the film as a "throwback', or at least that's what he hashtagged. The hope is it will be a big enough hit to launch a franchise, and given Johnson's track record there's a good chance that will happen.

Johnson is already starring in one mismatched buddy comedy alongside Kevin Hart in Central Intelligence, and he's also got Baywatch with Zac Efron. Gluck's most recent film was the remake of Annie.
