JJ Abrams Thinks Ava DuVernay Would Be A Great 'Star Wars' Director', Plus New 'Episode VII' Photos

How sick are you of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at this point? Well, sad day for you because even after the film opens and everyone has seen it there will be endless discussion about what worked, what didn't, and what comes next. And part of that future will likely be a female director, especially with reports surfacing that Lucasfilm met with several filmmakers about possible opportunities. But if J.J. Abrams had his way he knows who he would choose, and that's Selma director Ava DuVernay. He tells Yahoo...

“One name that immediately comes to mind is Ava DuVernay, who I thought did just a mind-blowingly great job with 'Selma.' And getting to know her a little since that movie… she is such a fan of genre films and storytelling."

He adds that "she loves the world so much and loves this genre and is such a talented storyteller. So if I had a say in this, which I don’t, I’d give her whatever she wants.”

Not a bad choice, but we know DuVernay is very picky on the projects she chooses, like when she turned down Marvel's Black Panther.

And one last thing, People has just revealed the first look at Carrie Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd (who is pretty great in Scream Queens, by the way), in the upcoming Star Wars film. What's her role? The latest batch of photos have her working alongside a droid, likely on the side of the Rebellion. [Slashfilm]
