New 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' BB-8 Poster; Fans Already Lining Up

I've ended many of my posts about Star Wars: The Force Awakens asking if any of you planned to stand in line crazy early to see it. And not surprisingly I've received a few emails from those saying that they would, which is weird since most tickets were pre-ordered months ago so what's the point? And the point is that everyone likes to feel as if they are part of a community, and the Star Wars community is an especially close-knit one. So it comes as no surprise to learn from the New York Times that fans are already lining up at Los Angeles' TCL Chinese Theater.

It's not a total shock to have people sleeping out on the streets in anticipation of the latest Star Wars movie. They did the same years ago ahead of the prequels, although it would be interesting to catch up with those folks now to see if it was worth it (probably not).

“At night you freeze and in the daytime you cook, but you come for the camaraderie and the chance to be a part of cinematic history,” said Erik Murillo, who was sitting in a lawn chair near two large plastic crates packed with supplies (clothes, food, a tent). “Besides, there are traditions to be upheld.”

Meanwhile, the promo campaign marches on with a new poster featuring the lovable droid, BB-8, which they clearly hope will be the next R2-D2.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens December 18th.
