'Ready Player One' Casts Tye Sheridan As Male Lead

While it looked for some time that Jurassic World's Nick Robinson was the frontrunner to lead Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, a different decision has now been made. Instead it will be another of today's best young actors, Tye Sheridan, taking the male lead in the adaptation of Ernest Cline's classic novel.

Sheridan will take on the role of Wade Watts, a player in the virtual reality world of OASIS who takes part in a grand treasure hunt created by the game's late founder. Olivia Cooke plays Samantha Cook, who has the OASIS avatar Ar3mis, and Ben Mendelsohn is on board to play the villain.

Add this to the list of impressive credits on Sheridan's resume. He had his big break out in Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life, and had great back-to-back dramatic performances in Mud opposite Matthew McConaughey and Joe with Nicolas Cage. Later this year he'll be playing Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse, securing what could be a long-term franchise role.  He most recently was seen in the undead comedy, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse so they can't all be winners.  But he was also very good recently in The Stanford Prison Experiment.

Ready Player One is set to open on March 30th 2018.  [Deadline]
