It's interesting that a new trailer for John Hillcoat's anticipated cop thriller Triple 9 has arrived today, just as the review embargo is being lifted. And so far the early critiques have been mixed, which is disappointing given its star-studded ensemble. But reviews aren't the final say, and the film could still turn out to be a solid early-year hit, especially with a cast that includes Woody Harrelson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Casey Affleck, Norman Reedus, Aaron Paul, Gal Gadot, Michael K. Williams, Clifton Collins Jr., Teresa Palmer, and Anthony Mackie.
Here's the official synopsis: In TRIPLE 9, a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist. The only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down”. Their plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the attack, triggering a breakneck, action-packed finale filled with double-crosses, greed and revenge.
Triple 9 hits theaters on February 26th.
