Alexander Payne's 'Downsizing' Adds Christoph Waltz
Alexander Payne isn't a director who goes out of his way attracting A-list stars for his movies; Nebraska was led by Will Forte and Bruce Dern, for instance. But perhaps the long wait to get his sci-fi comedy Downsizing has made him change his mind, and now another big name has joined the cast with the addition of Christoph Waltz.
Waltz joins a starry bunch that includes Reese Witherspoon, Matt Damon, Alec Baldwin, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Sudeikis, and Hong Chau. The story is bigger and more visual effects-heavy than Payne's prior work, taking place in a future society where humans conserve Earth's natural resources by undergoing a process to shrink down to 1/8th their size. Damon plays a man who agrees to be shrunk down, only for the decision to cause major problems.
Downsizing opens next year on Christmas Day. [THR]
