Kevin Bacon Enters 'The Darkness' In New Trailer For Blumhouse's Horror

With Sinister, Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Ouija, and Insidious Blumhouse Productions has amassed a powerful line-up of cost-effective horror franchises with some pretty big stars. Could The Darkness be the start of a new one? The latest trailer makes a good case that it could be.

Directed by Greg McLean (Wolf Creek) and starring Kevin Bacon, Radha Mitchell, David Mazouz (Gotham), Lucy Fry, Matt Walsh, and Jennifer Morrison, the film centers on a family who bring back an evil spirit from their trip to the Grand Canyon.  So it's a demon attracted to boring family vacation spots? Perhaps the twist is that they deserve to be haunted?

The premise isn't particularly novel, nor is there anything fresh to be found in this trailer. However at this point it's probably a good idea to trust in Blumhouse as their best films have been at the hands of veteran filmmakers. For an example check out M. Night Shyamalan's return to form in The Visit, and clearly Blumhouse hopes to find that kind of success with The Darkness, which opens May 13th.
