Universal's interconnected universe of monster movie reboots isn't just happening, it's attracting some pretty big stars. The most recent was Johnny Depp who came aboard a revived The Invisible Man, and they already have Tom Cruise set to star in a relaunch of The Mummy. Now Cruise is being joined in that film by Peaky Blinders and Annabelle star, Annabelle Wallis.
Wallis, who can be seen in The Brothers Grimsby this week, joins Cruise and Sofia Boutella, the latter playing the titular mummy. The film is set in the modern day and stars Cruise as a special forces officer, with Wallis as a scientist. Alex Kurtzman is directing from a script by Jon Spaihts, with this planned to be the first of Universal's expanding monster universe.
The Mummy opens June 9th 2017. Wallis will also be seen next year in Guy Ritchie's Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur. [THR]
