'Assassin's Creed' Sequel Already In The Works With Michael Fassbender Returning

There are a ton of expectations being heaped on video game adaptation, Assassin's Creed, and the film doesn't even arrive until the holiday season. With Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in the lead roles, and a talented director like Justin Kurzel (Macbeth), many see it as possibly the first great film of the genre. And it's obvious New Regency has faith it will be, because they've reportedly begun plans for a follow-up.

According to The Tracking Board, an Assassin's Creed sequel is already in the works, with Fassbender returning as time-hopping assassin Callum Lynch. Details on this one are few, and it's unclear if Kurzel or Cotillard will be coming back. Video game developer UbiSoft will once again be part of overseeing the project. They recently set aside the game franchise in order to focus on getting the feature film off the ground.

Assassin's Creed opens December 21st.
