Ava DuVernay Lines Up '70s Fashion World Film 'The Battle Of Versailles'

Ava DuVernay is certainly basking in the freedom being a top-flight director brings, having already lined up an adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time and sci-fi film Intelligent Life as her next projects. But that's not all she's got coming up, as this time she's set to tackle the fashion world with The Battle Of Versailles.

DuVernay will direct and co-write the film which is based on the November 28, 1973 fashion show at the Palace of Versailles, which saw a number of international fashion heavyweights vying for top dog. The script will be co-written by DuVernay and Michael Starrbury (The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete) based on fashion journalist Robin Givhan's book which chronicled the groundbreaking showdown between underdog American designers Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass, Anne Klein, Halston, Stephen Burrows and French superstars Yves Saint Laurent, Hubert de Givenchy, Pierre Cardin, Emanuel Ungaro, and Marc Bohan of Christian Dior.

So another complete change-of-pace for DuVernay as she continues to diversify. Just don't expect to see this one for a while as those other projects will come first. [Deadline]
