Emma Stone To Play Rosemary Kennedy In 'Letters From Rosemary'
While the Kennedy clan have a political legacy that has made them frequent subjects for Hollywood, one member of the family has rarely been a part of all that. Rose Marie "Rosemary" Kennedy's story is perhaps the most tragic of all, and now it looks like her tale is finally going to be told with Emma Stone set to play her.
According to Variety, Stone is attached to play Rosemary Kennedy in Letters from Rosemary, which features a Black List script by first-timer Nick Yarborough. Rosemary was the eldest sister of President John F. Kennedy and senators Ted and Robert F. Kennedy. She was young, beautiful, and graceful just like her siblings, but behavioral problems due to a mental instability left her behind. At the age of 23 her parents had doctors perform a lobotomy on her, but it failed and left her permanently incapacitated. Her condition is said to be what inspired her sister, Eunice, to begin what would ultimately become the Special Olympics.
For Stone, it's another high-profile role with plenty of awards potential, but a lot is going to depend on who comes aboard to direct. It also continues her relationship with Anonymous Content, for whom she is set to star in a planned comedy series, Maniac, alongside Jonah Hill (her Superbad co-star) with Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) directing. While a writer for it has yet to be found, the series would follow a guy who lives a fantasy life in his dreams, but in reality he's locked up at an institution.
Both projects could be a ways off, as 'Letters' seeks a director and Maniac looks for a premium network willing to commit to a two-season order.
