It's long been expected that when X-Men: Apocalypse is over, the torch will have passed to a new generation of stars. Nicholas Hoult, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Jennifer Lawrence will be done with their contractual obligations, and Bryan Singer has called the film a conclusion to the latest trilogy. As for Lawrence, she's been open about this being her final time as the blue-skinned mutant, saying last year “It is my last one, actually.” But has she had a change of heart?
Speaking with Empire, Lawrence appears to have changed her mind, or at least she's leaving the door open to a return
“I am dying to come back. I love these movies, I love being in them. I love ensemble movies because it’s not on anyone’s shoulders."
Maybe she was just having a bad day last year, perhaps tired of spending eight hours covered in blue paint, then going out and talking about it. Of course, a sudden desire to return doesn't necessarily mean she will. It's entirely possible the franchise moves far beyond the X-Men: First Class roster and focuses on the newcomers which includes Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, and Alexandra Shipp as Storm.
Only time will tell, and of course it all depends on Mystique's fate. She may not even survive X-Men: Apocalypse, which opens on May 27th.
