'Room' Director Lenny Abrahamson To Direct WWI POW Film 'The Grand Escape'
Room director Lenny Abrahamson hasn't been resting on his laurels since the film gained such a tremendous amount of awards notoriety, including a Best Actress win for Brie Larson. Instead he's been keeping busy piling on more projects, such as a reunion with Frank star Domhnall Gleeson for The Little Stranger, and a biopic on bisexual boxer Emile Griffith. And now he's adding more to the end of that list, and it's one that will take the director to the battlefields of WWI.
Variety reports that Abrahamson will direct The Grand Escape, the upcoming book by author Neal Bascombe. The rights were recently snapped up by Film4 and Element Pictures even though the book is still being written and won't hit shelves for a while yet. But it's clear why they're so interested, as it's based on the true story WWI's greatest mass POW escape, centering on three daredevil pilots who flee from the German camp.
So don't expect to see this one for a while, but once again Abrahamson is branching out into different territory and that is reason enough to be excited.
