After dropping a surprisingly hilarious red band trailer for Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping just last week, The Lonely Island is toning things down a bit with a new version. The comedy trio of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer are back alongside Imogen Poots, Bill Hader, Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows, Maya Rudolph, a holographic Adam Levine, Usher, and more in a mockumentary on the life of fictional rapper, Conner4Real. Here's the synopsis:
Universal Pictures’ Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is headlined by musical digital-shorts superstars Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, collectively known as The Lonely Island. The comedy goes behind the scenes as singer/rapper Conner4Real (Samberg) faces a crisis of popularity after his sophomore album flops, leaving his fans, sycophants and rivals all wondering what to do when he’s no longer the dopest star of all.
It's a good sign this still looks funny without the edgiest gags, kind of like an extended episode of Documentary Now! Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping opens on June 3rd.
