'The Mummy' Adds Jake Johnson, Amanda Seyfried Boards 'Anon', Lizzy Caplan Joins Robert Zemeckis' WWII Thriller

Jurassic World and New Girl's Jake Johnson is the latest to join Tom Cruise in Universal's reboot of The Mummy, continuing a flurry of casting news. Sofia Boutella plays the lead monster this time around, with Annabelle Wallis having joined in a supporting role just yesterday. Johnson has secured a military character role that screenwriter Jon Spaihts wrote specifically for him, meaning it may be another funny, sarcastic character similar to what he played in Jurassic World.  The film, which will be directed by Alex Kurtzman, will be set in modern day with Cruise playing a special forces officer. The Mummy is expected to open on June 9th 2017. [THR]

Andrew Niccol's upcoming sci-fi thriller Anon already has Clive Owen set for the lead role, and now Amanda Seyfried, is coming aboard, too.  The dystopian film stars Owen as a detective who discovers a woman with no digital footprint, which is weird since they live in a world where anonymity and privacy have been completely eliminated. Niccol knows Seyfried well from having worked with her on his last futuristic action film, In Time. [ScreenDaily]

Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex) has joined Robert Zemeckis' untitled WWII spy thriller led by Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard. The film, which features a script by Steven Knight (Locke), centers on two assassins who fall in love while on a mission to kill a German official. They marry, only for one to learn the other is a double agent who must now be eliminated. [TheWrap]
