Sweeping, Epic Trailer For James Gray's 'The Lost City Of Z' With Charlie Hunnam And Robert Pattinson

Oh my. It's always exciting when James Gray (Two Lovers, The Immigrant, We Own the Night) has a new project in the works, especially when the wait has been as long as for The Lost City of Z. In the planning stages for years with many a star having come aboard then dropped out (such as Brad Pitt and Benedict Cumberbatch), the jungle action-adventure is far enough along that the first official trailer, one designed for the sales market, has been released and it looks terrific.

Charlie Hunnam takes center stage on this one, playing real-life 1920s adventurer/explorer Percy Fawcett, who was obsessed with finding a mythical civilization in the heart of the Amazon jungle. It was during his final expedition that Fawcett mysteriously disappeared never to be heard from again. The rest of the cast includes Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller, and Tom Holland, so lots of talent all around. The film is based on the book by David Grann.

There's a distinct Apocalypse Now vibe coursing through this footage, and other than the cinematography by Darius Khondji this looks like nothing Gray has ever tackled before. With Pitt having stuck around to produce through his Plan B banner, plus the big name cast Gray has assembled, don't be surprised if this one sells pretty quick. Until then the film has no release date, although it could possibly show up on the festival circuit first. These sales trailers tend to get removed so check this one out quickly.
