'Godzilla' Franchise Gets New Release Dates, Mystery DC Comics Film Bumped
Considering he's been pretty busy with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, there hasn't been a ton of movement on a sequel to Gareth Edwards' Godzilla. Anything involving the giant lizard has involved the Godzilla vs. Kong movie that Warner Bros.' and Legendary are putting together. So it doesn't come as a surprise that the film is getting a significant bump further down the line, while other "cinematic universe" titles, including a mystery DC Comics film, have received new dates.
Godzilla 2 has been moved from June 8, 2018 all the way to March 22, 2019, a full nine months later. That will be followed by Godzilla vs. Kong on May 29th 2020. So this moves those two movies closer together, which makes a lot of sense. They'll be preceded next year by Kong: Skull Island on March 10th, which will set the whole kaiju showdown up. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing that one, with Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, and Samuel L. Jackson part of the cast.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has also moved the mystery film we all assume to be Green Lantern Corps to July 24th 2020, about a month later than before. No reason was given for the move but it probably has something to do with Pixar also having a mystery film set on the previous date. Who needs that competition?
And finally, the studio has added a mystery "event" film on December 25th 2018. What is it? Well, that's the mystery, right? Maybe it's the recently announced Space Jam 2 with LeBron James?
