Those who know me and follow this site know how much I love politics, and for years there was no politician I loved more than Anthony Weiner. He wasn't even my Congressman but the brash, fiery New Yorker won me over with his take-no-prisoners attitude in defending the middle class. That's what made it so sad when the sexting scandal broke in 2011 and ended his career.
Two years later he was ready to make a comeback in the 2013 mayoral race in New York City, and the documentary Weiner was meant to chronicle his return to prominence. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, directors Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg found themselves with a totally different story on their hands when more women emerged with even more devastating photos. The documentary became about Weiner's attempts to save his suddenly-failing campaign, as well as his marriage to Hillary Clinton confidante, Huma Abedin. The result is a fascinating look at a prominent politician's downfall, and the unscrupulous media that fanned the flames.
