Assuming Hugh Jackman is really making a cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse (Which I'm seeing in an hour. Excited!!), his next and final time to pop the claws will be in Wolverine 3. There have been a ton of rumors about what the film would be, like an R-rated version of the futuristic "Old Man Logan" storyline. None of it had been confimed, though, but producer Simon Kinberg has pretty much done just that.
While speaking with Collider on the press tour, Kinberg confirmed the film will be rated 'R' and be set in the future. He doesn't come right out and say it's "Old Man Logan", but he does refer to it as a Western, which that story most definitely is...
“I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say about that. I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”
A Western would be perfect considering James Mangold, who directed the excellent 3:10 to Yuma, is at the helm. And it's fitting that Jackman should be allowed to cut loose in his final turn as Wolvie. After that? Who knows? Does Fox recast the character? Maybe introduce X-23 to fill the clawed savage role?
Wolverine 3 is set to open on March 3rd 2017 and is filming now.
