'Beverly Hills Cop 4' Is Real And It's Happening With Two New Directors

Beverly Hills Cop 3 was 22 years ago and despite it being the weakest of the then-trilogy, rumors have been flying around that Eddie Murphy would be back as Axel Foley in another film. There have been various stops and starts, and an aborted TV series, but it looked like things would finally begin to happen after the decent success of Tower Heist with Murphy and director Brett Ratner. And yet, nothing happened with the film being yanked off Paramount's schedule last year. But if you thought that meant the franchise was dead, you were very wrong. No franchise is ever truly gone.

Promising directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who won the Discovery Award at TIFF for a thriller titled Black, will take on Beverly Hills Cop 4. Murphy will obviously return as wise-cracking cop Axel Foley, with Josh Appelbaum and AndrĂ© Nemec (Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol) writing the screenplay. Can we get a Judge Reinhold appearance, maybe? One can only hope.

After such a long wait it's no surprise Paramount wants to roll on this one quickly with a late 2016/early 2017 start date planned. Get ready to hear that famous Eddie Murphy laugh again! It's been too long.
