Donald Glover Swings To Marvel's 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'

Well, True Believers, you're finally getting Donald Glover in a Spider-Man movie, just not in the way you hoped. After Sony decided to reboot the Spidey franchise after Spider-Man 3, there was a clamor from fans to see a different take on the character, one that would be more culturally diverse. And that led many to suggest Glover as the next Spidey. It didn't happen, of course, and we got Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker in a pair of middling films. But Glover stayed in the Spideyverse in another way, voicing Miles Morales in Disney XD's Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.

Now he's taking it one step further by joining the cast of Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming, but no, he won't be Morales. Or at least we don't think he will be. His exact role is being kept a secret for now, although he seems like a good candidate to play a villain of some kind. He joins Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, plus Michael Keaton possibly as the Vulture, Zendaya Coleman, Kenneth Choi, Michael Barbieri, and Laura Harrier in supporting roles.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming opens July 7th 2017. [THR]
