Jim Carrey is no stranger to comic book adaptations, having starred in The Mask and Batman Forever. But his last attempt, Kick-Ass 2, didn't go so well and he openly criticized the film for glorifying violence....as if he had no part in it. Whatever. Carrey isn't letting that turn him away from the entire genre, because now he'll join with Eli Roth to bring IDW comic Aleister Arcane to the big screen.
THR reports that Roth will direct Carrey in the adaptation of Steve Niles' (30 Days of Night) horror comic about a Los Angeles weatherman named Aleister Green who returns to his hometown to host a midnight horror show similar to Elvira or DC's own Count Gore De Vol. But when the network balks at the gore and an unfortunate incident puts him on trial, his spirit is broken and he ends up in the grave, but not before placing a curse on the town that only a handful of kids can lift.
Penning the script will be Jon Croker, who recently wrote The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death. The move comes just a day after Roth signed on to direct his first big studio film, a Death Wish remake starring Bruce Willis. This would seem to be another move in that direction for Roth as Aleister Arcane has been picked up by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment. Meanwhile, Carrey is moving away from studio projects, and will be seen in horror The Bad Batch from A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night director Ana Lily Amirpour.
