Over the weekend rapper The Game (not to be confused with WWE's "The Game", although that would be awesome) producer LT Hutton's Instagram to praise the upcoming Tupac Skakur biopic, All Eyez On Me. While The Game is certainly a bit biased being one of the biggest stars of West Coast rap, he came out and said the film would make 2009's Biggie Smalls biopic Notorious “look like a cartoon.” Damn, yo. What up with the diss track? Is he right? Well the long awaited first trailer has arrived and it actually looks pretty good.
In the works for years with a list of former directors a mile long, the film was ultimately shot and completed by music video director, Benny Boom. But that's not what everyone cares about; what they want to know is who got the unenviable job of playing Tupac. After an extensive, years-long search that job went to Demetrius Shipp Jr. who is a spitting image of the slain rapper. The rest of the cast is solid with Danai Gurira (Michonne on The Walking Dead) as Tupac's mom Afeni Shakur, Dominic Santana as Suge Knight, Lauren Cohan (also of The Walking Dead) as Leila Steinberg, Digital Underground member Money B as himself, Kat Graham as Jada Pinkett, and ironically Jamal Woolard reprising his Notorious role as Biggie Smalls. Wonder how he feels about The Game's comments?
The interesting thing about this trailer, besides the fact that Boom is clearly putting his video experience into play? It appears that it will address his death in some way, or at least set up a few possibilities as to who the killer or killers may be. Not sure that's the smart way to go, but we'll find out when All Eyez On Me opens November 11th.
