Ricky Gervais' 'David Brent: Life On The Road' Is Headed To Netflix

It seems the relationship between Ricky Gervais and Netflix, established with the recent comedy Special Correspondents, is only getting stronger. Gervais revealed on the Opie & Anthony show that the streaming service has picked up David Brent: Life On the Road, a spinoff featuring his popular character from The Office.

Gervais wrote, directed, and will obviously star in the comedy which was already due to hit certain overseas markets in August. Netflix will take care of distribution elsewhere, including the United States, some time next year. Unfortunately it won't be getting a theatrical release, either, so it will be a lot like Special Correspondents in that regard. Gervais isn't worried about that part of it, though, he's just happy more eyeballs will be on his movie...

“Everyone is going to see it, which is great for me ‘cause I’d rather 20 million people see it (on Netflix) than half a million people see it in the cinemas. Because I want to do tours on the back of it. So, for me, it’s great it’s going on Netflix.”

So what do you think? Are you excited to see David Brent's return? Not being a huge fan of The Office, either version of it, this doesn't mean much to me other than Gervais' involvement, but I hold out hope it lives up to the expectations of those who did love that show. Check out the trailer for David Brent: Life On the Road below.
