Is New Line really trying to build a cinematic universe around Ed and Lorraine Warren from The Conjuring? Two real-life people who presumably don't have a movie-verse as part of their lives? Apparently so, because after the success of The Conjuring 2 they are planning a spinoff centered on that creepy Marilyn Manson-esque demon nun.
James Wan will be involved as a producer while The Conjuring 2 screenwriter David Leslie Johnson will get cracking on the script. No word on what the plot will be but presumably it will follow a similar trajectory as the previous spinoff, Annabelle, which centered on an early tale of the possessed doll the Warrens have locked up. That film went on to earn $256M, damn good for a random spinoff without the key stars, and has earned an upcoming sequel.
