If A Black Widow Movie Happens Joss Whedon Would Totally Direct It
While it's a great time to be a fan of female superheroes with Wonder Woman on the way and Brie Larson set as Captain Marvel, there's a current Avenger who has been in need of her own movie for a while. Black Widow has been the most obvious choice to have a movie, because she's one of the Avengers' most popular members played by Scarlett Johansson, and because there has been a ton of support. How many petitions have been created to make this thing happen? And Joss Whedon has made it clear in the past he thinks there should be a Black Widow movie. But would he direct it if asked?
Of course he would, or "Duh", as he put it to IGN in a recent interview...
“If somebody pointed to me and said, ‘You want to make a Black Widow movie?’ the answer would be ‘Duh.’ For two reasons: I think that character really is very interesting and very earthbound and so it’s the kind of action that I got to do less of with somebody like Thor or The Vision. When you get into your Superman territory it’s harder to maintain that sort of gritty action that the Russo brothers do so beautifully. And she’s got that kind of thing… and really do a spy thriller, really do a good, paranoid sort of John LeCarré on crack sort of thing. Also, Scarlett Johansson is just delightful. She works really hard, but she just spends most of her time cracking me up, so it would be a fun shoot.”
Whedon has taken a few steps back from the MCU since Avengers: Age of Ultron, but it's clear he's not saying good-bye permanently. And with Kevin Feige reiterating Marvel's commitment to a Black Widow movie, we could see Whedon called back into action at some point.
