If we're talking about the biggest differences between Warner Bros.' DCU and Marvel, perhaps the biggest has to do with their approach to screenwriting. Marvel has a very clear vision on who is doing what and where the stories will go. WB chooses to select a handful of writers drafting competing parallel screenplays, which is what they did for James Wan's upcoming Aquaman movie. The three writers brought on to draft scripts were Will Beall (Gangster Squad), David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2)and Zack Snyder's buddy, Kurt Johnstad (300).
While none of the screenplays were actually chosen, Beall has found himself back in as the sole writer of Aquaman. Perhaps this is some vindication because you may recall Beall had written an early Justice League draft only to have it tossed out. This time around Beall will be writing based on a story cooked up by Wan and Geoff Johns, so there's no excuse if he screws it up this time.
