Sneaky! Adam Wingard's 'The Woods' Is Actually A 'Blair Witch' Sequel! Check Out The Trailer!

So is this like a new thing? Hiding movies under completely different titles, even promoting them and releasing trailers for them, only to reveal them as something totally different at the last moment? We saw the same thing happen with 10 Cloverfield Lane just a few months ago, and now Adam Wingard's horror, previously titled The Woods, has just been confirmed to be a sequel to The Blair Witch Project.

While it has been maligned since it came out in 1999 and launched the found footage crazy that still infects horror movies today, The Blair Witch Project was actually VERY intense and genuinely creepy. Perhaps it had to do with our lack of familiarity with the genre at that point, but to me it still holds up. The new film is now simply titled Blair Witch, and stars James Allen McCune, Callie Hernandez, Brandon Scott, Valorie Curry, Corbin Reid, and Wes Robinson as college students who venture back into Maryland's Black Hills Forest to learn the truth surrounding the disappearance of one's sister, who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. Could James' sister be the character played by Heather Donahue on the original movie? Thankfully it looks like the atrocious sequel, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, is being ignored.

Blair Witch opens September 16th.
