Another Possible 'Captain Marvel' Director Has Emerged
The hard part is over. After a lengthy search it was Brie Larson named to lead Marvel's first female-led superhero film, Captain Marvel, and the response from fans has been enthusiastic to say the least. Now the next step is finding a director to make sure the project goes off without a hitch and fits into the overall MCU scheme. While a short list emerged recently with a handful of contenders, Jeff Sneider at Mashable has one more who is being considered.
According to Sneider, we can include Rebecca Thomas on the list of possibilities which includes Niki Caro (Whale Rider), Lesli Linka Glatter (Ray Donovan) and Lorene Scafaria (The Meddler). Thomas is best known for the 2012 indie drama, Electrick Children, which I remember for Julia Garner's breakout performance. Thomas is also attached to direct Chloe Moretz in Universal's live-action The Little Mermaid. She had been on board for an adaptation of John Green's first novel, Looking for Alaska, but that film has been shelved according to the author.
Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) are co-writing the script, and with the film not expected to arrive until March 8th 2019 we may not get a decision for a while.
