Zombieland and Gangster Squad director Ruben Fleischer will take the helm for a movie based on Cops, the reality series best known for its "Bad Boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do?" theme song. Well, it's also known for making petty criminals and drunkards look far more dangerous than they actually were, but whatever. If you were poor and lived in a not-so-good part of town in the '80s and '90s you probably ended up on an episode of Cops at some point. Or someone you knew was on it. For a whopping 29 seasons (!!!) cameras have followed police around as they bust people in a way that should probably get them fired from the force.
The film will be written by Cameron Fay and is described as a "Lethal Weapon-esque buddy comedy", which sounds absolutely ludicrous. So what the heck does this have to do with Cops? If this were a gritty End of Watch-style drama from David Ayer it would make a lot more sense. Maybe this is all Fleischer can bag at this point? Zombieland was his best film by far, followed by the mediocre comedy 30 Minutes or Less and the downright lousy Gangster Squad. He hasn't done anything since until now, and this doesn't sound like comeback material.
