David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike star as real-life couple Seretse Khama and Ruth Williams, whose marriage in 1948 caused incredible global controversy. Seretse was the first President of Botswana until he was exiled for daring to marry Ruth, a white English woman, at a time when interracial marriage was illegal.
So it shares a few similarities to Jeff Nichols' Loving, and we could possibly see two movies about interracial marriage and overcoming prejudice be factors this awards season. A United Kingdom premieres at TIFF next month and hits the UK in November. Hopefully U.S. distribution will be found soon.
