Dax Shepard Co-Directing Next 'Scooby-Doo' Movie, Mark Waters Enters 'Magic Camp'

The Mystery Machine has a new passenger as Dax Shepard has come on board Warner Bros.' upcoming Scooby-Doo animated feature, which was previously-titled S.C.O.O.B. However he's not joining as a voice actor, instead he'll be a co-director alongside Space Jam helmer, Tony Cervone. The film is expected to be part of the studio's Hannah-Barbera cinematic universe, seriously, and could include other animated characters, including some who are not part of Hannah-Barbera. Shepard  will also collaborate with screenwriter Matt Lierberman on the script which will probably have Scoob, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma foiling some evildoer's random plot by removing their mask or something.  This will be Shepard's first directing gig since the surprisingly enjoyable chase comedy Hit and Run. He's stepping behind the camera for the upcoming CHiPs remake. The new Scooby-Doo film will open Sept. 21st 2018. [Variety]

Mean Girls and Bad Santa 2 director Mark Waters has found his next comedy. He'll board Disney's long-developing Magic Camp movie, which has had Steve Martin attached to star for a couple years.  Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue are the latest of many screenwriters to tackle the story of  a rigid and straight-laced banker who returns to Magic Camp where he attended as a child years before. Only now he's a camp counselor with plans of improving the lives of the campers while also winning the Golden Wand competition. Production is underway now and it will be interesting to see how Disney slots this one  when they have so many live-action movies coming up.
