Dylan O'Brien Is A Trained Killer In First 'American Assassin' Image
Although Dylan O'Brien's injuries caused a delay on Maze Runner: The Death Cure so that it's not quite completed, he's healthy enough to pose for the first image from his next film, American Assassin. O'Brien plays CIA agent Mitch Rapp in the film which is based on the popular series of novels by Vince Flynn, with the expectation this will be the first in a franchise.
Directed by Michael Cuesta (Kill the Messenger) with Michael Keaton, Taylor Kitsch, Shiva Negar, and Sanaa Lathan co-starring, the story takes us back to Rapp's beginnings when a terrorist attack kills his girlfriend. From that moment on he pledges to fight terrorism, enduring six months of brutal training at the hands of a Cold War vet played by Keaton. With the help of a Turkish agent they investigate a series of attacks on military and civilian personnel. Kitch plays a mysterious operative trying to start World War 3 in the Middle East.
I've always been happy with the casting of O'Brien, who has proven himself a great young talent in The Maze Runner flicks. I can see him commanding multiple franchises very soon, similar to the way Tom Cruise does. Not saying they're the same, but O'Brien seems to be on a similar path. American Assassin has yet to gain a release date but filming should begin soon.
